PS 399 – Welcome Back to School Letter
Latoya Staley, Ed.D., Principal
Dear PS 399 Families,
Welcome back to a brand-new school year! We closed out last year on a high note, filled with achievements, growth, and memories—and we are looking forward to an even better year ahead.
We are excited to welcome new staff members to the PS 399 community. Our dedicated teachers remain committed to empowering, engaging, and enlightening our students by providing exceptional and equitable education. Our small class sizes will continue to allow teachers to meet the needs of every learner.
At PS 399, COLLABORATION and persistence in TEAMWORK are our strategies for success. Together, we will stay healthy—both physically and mentally—and finish another school year even STRONGER.
This year, our primary academic focus is CLOSING THE READING GAP for EVERY STUDENT. We will use every instructional resource, method, and tool in our educational “toolbox” with fidelity to ensure every child reaches their fullest potential.
As your principal, my mission is to make sure that every child’s educational and social-emotional needs are met. A major focus this year will be bridging the gap between school and home—because families are our partners. The key to our students’ success is built on the collaboration between school staff and families. When we work together, our students thrive.
In addition, please be aware that New York State is implementing a Distraction-Free Learning Policy for internet-enabled personal devices. Students will not be allowed to use cell phones, iPads, or smart watches during the school day. All devices must be handed in upon arrival and will be returned at dismissal. A contract outlining this policy will be sent home for both parent and student signatures.
We are excited to kick off the year with our Back to School Giveaway on Thursday, August 29, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. We hope to see you there!
This year, we will continue to keep you informed through email, Instagram, Class Dojo, the PS 399 School App, phone calls, and our school website. Please make sure your contact information is current so you never miss important updates.
Let’s make this an Exceptional year together!
Warm regards,
Latoya Staley, Ed.D.
